Situation today

More than 50% of the workforce being under the age of 30. Professionals over 50 constitute a tiny minority (probably 0.03%). The seniors are isolated within the enterprise!

Potential causes

the IT industry relies heavily on "cheap, young manpower". Professionals over 50 are often viewed as "too costly" by employers. College graduates or freshers who align better with corporate cost structures & technological changes, are preferred more. The "pyramid structure" problem where high-salary opportunities for experienced staff are scarce. Organizations fail to realize the value of deep technical experience. Unless a professional has already entered the "senior leadership" ranks, the future is uncertain. The senior employees face the stereotype of being "not hands-on" due to changing technologies.
